Mobile Autonomous Launcher

MAL

For the mobile land-attack version of BRAHMOS used by the Army, BrahMos Aerospace has developed a unique state-of-the-art Mobile Autonomous Launcher (MAL). The MAL is the first indigenously developed single vehicle weapon system comprising of command, control and communication systems. The MAL is built on an advanced all terrain high mobility 12x12 carrier with electronically controlled engine and transmission systems. It carries three canisterised BRAHMOS missiles inside three independent containers. The containers provide necessary support to the missile canisters; ensure thermal conditioning of the canisters and interface with the launch beam. The containers are carried in horizontal position in transportation mode. The launcher control system (LCS) functions in co-ordination with the Fire Control System (FCS) and communication system. The vehicle and the systems are capable of operating in NBC fall out environment as all operations can be automatically carried out from a protected equipment cabin of the MAL. In a group of four, the Mobile Autonomous Launchers are controlled by Mobile Command Post (MCP).

Salient Features of MAL

  • Carries two/three canisterised BRAHMOS missiles
  • Vertical launch of missiles in single or salvo mode
  • In-built fire control, command control and communication systems
  • Thermally-conditioned canisters for operation between -40 0C and +55 0C
  • Air-conditioned control crew cabin with NBC protection
