BRAHMOS BLOCK-II version successfully tested for third time
BrahMos Aerospace (March 29, 2009) Print This NewsNEW DELHI: The land-attack version of BRAHMOS Block-II was successfully test fired this morning, from Mobile Autonomous Launcher at the Pokhran test range in Rajasthan, in the presence of senior Indian Army officials.
The missile took off at 1115 hours IST and hit the desired target, meeting all mission parameters, official sources said.
The launch was witnessed by Army's DGMO Lt. General A S Sekhon, Lt. Gen. K R Rao Commandant School of Artillery and Maj. General V K Tiwari ADG Artillery, along with other senior Army officials.
CEO & MD of BrahMos Aerospace Dr. A Sivathanu Pillai, DRDL Director Mr P Venugopalan, Project Director Mr S Som, Executive Director (Production) Rear Admiral (Retd.) S Mohapatra and other senior scientists were present during the missile’s launch, the sources said.
This is the third launch in a series of tests of BRAHMOS’s Block-II version designed and developed for the Indian Army.
With today’s launch, all requirements of the Army for the land-attack version having the Block-II advanced seeker software and target discriminating capabilities have been fully met. This improved version of the missile is now ready for induction. It will provide an enhanced capability to the user for selection of a particular land target amongst a group of targets, the sources said.
With this success, BRAHMOS has become the only supersonic cruise missile in the world to possess the unique advanced capability, thereby providing an edge to the user with precise hit. The Indian Army is the first army in the world to have a regiment of supersonic cruise missiles with advanced capabilities.
